Спасибо за поистине удивительный день .
This is the album I recorded last month in Moscow. My guide Tatyana told me that Red Square is a mistranslation and in Russia, it is actually known as Beautiful Square, so I named the EP, Tatyana (Beautiful Square)... I was extremely moved by Tatyana's honesty as she spoke about the incredible difficulties she had to bare as a young women and inevitably a Mother in the Soviet Union. Her eyes told the brutal truth of great hardship incomprehensible to me. She was open about her disdain for the Soviets as she took me around Red Square, making a point not to join me in seeing Lenins embalmed corpse at the center of his Mausoleum, or standing over the graves of Stalin and Brezhnev alongside the Kremlin Wall. Getting closer to a clearer understanding of Russia's sacrifice since the Russian Revolution, the emptiness of these great monuments was heartbreaking. Afterwards Tatyana took me to the graves of Raisia Gorbachev, Khrushchev and Yeltsin in Novodevichy Cemetery...this intimate burial site of Khrushchev, the general secretary kept from the prestige of Red Square was again apparent of the ultimately meaningless hierarchy of humanity that even the socialist paradise could not over come...So basically I was very moved by seeing the burial sites of some of the most powerful men of the 20th century but typically the true beauty that is the sincerity of Women, and Women's understanding of life made me accept the sham. As these great figures are united in death, I felt inclined to attempt to redefine how they are remembered through the composition of new funeral marches...
